Ashton Intellectual Property, PLLC brings together David Y. Ashton and Andrew M. Ashton, two patent attorneys whose partnership is grounded in a lifetime of trust, complementary strengths, and a shared commitment to their clients. The firm is the culmination of years spent developing the experience, judgment, and working relationship that define their practice today.
In their own practice, David and Andrew carry forward the Ashton family tradition established by their father and uncles at Ashton Podiatry: personal service, trusted relationships, and pride in the work.
Their relationship shapes how they work: candidly, collaboratively, and with personal accountability. They know how to challenge each other’s thinking, draw on each other’s strengths, and stay focused on the work in front of them. At Ashton IP, that longstanding partnership becomes a direct, hands-on commitment to clients.
Together, they combine technical depth with an understanding of how patent decisions affect a business. David brings a strategic approach grounded in technical understanding and business priorities, with experience advising innovators ranging from startups and universities to Fortune 100 companies. His practice has included patent preparation and prosecution, portfolio management, due diligence, freedom-to-operate analyses, and strategic counseling. His time in-house supporting a Fortune company’s chief technology office and display business units gave him firsthand experience with the priorities and practical demands facing in-house teams.
Andrew combines extensive engineering training, including bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering, with a thoughtful, practical approach to patent law. He works closely with inventors and legal teams to understand what makes an innovation significant, identify opportunities for protection, and develop a strategy that carries through preparation and prosecution. His experience across electronics, software, and other complex technologies allows him to engage with the technical details while keeping the client’s broader objectives in view. His work also includes drafting ex parte opinions for Patent Trial and Appeal Board judges.
Ashton IP brings these perspectives together in a focused practice where David and Andrew work alongside clients as a closely coordinated team. They believe clients should have access to sophisticated, high-level patent strategy, direct attorney involvement, and flexible arrangements that align with their business objectives. Both remain personally involved in understanding the technology, working through challenges, and carrying the strategy forward.
